A large beautiful lake in the centre of green mountains is the main Attraction of Bhimtal which has a island in middle where one can visit to see aquarium. Tourist can spend peaceful time near the lake. Boating is also available in Bhimtal lake for Rs. 250.
The town has derived its name from the legendary Bhima of the Mahabharata who is said to have visited this place during his exile period. An ancient Bhimeshwara Mahadev Temple is situated at the shore of Bhimtal lake is believed to be built by Bhima during the period of Pandavas banishment (vanvas).
By Bus - There are no bus stations in Bhimtal. The nearest bus route is in Bhowali which is at a distance of around 12 km After that one have to book taxi or use shared taxi. Taxis can directly hired from Haldwani as well.
By Railway - The nearest railway station from Bhimtal is Kathgodam Railway Station which is 26 km far. The station is well-connected to other major cities of Uttarakhand and other northern cities of India.
It is advisable to use Haldwani Railway Stations which is one station before Kathgodam because Haldwani has more transport facilities.
By Air - Nearest Airport is Pantnagar Airport which 50 km away from Bhimtal.
